// About

My name is Avie (ay-vee)

Avie is a producer and DJ originally from Minneapolis but currently located in Southern California just outside of Los Angeles. Highly influenced by early- and mid-90s rave and techno, Avie creates tracks that sound modern but feel old school. Mainly centered around Driving and Hypnotic Techno, it's difficult to create a playlist or set that an Avie track doesn't fit into.

Andrew Davies has been learning, playing, and writing music his entire life. Beginning with piano lessons at age 5, he was classically trained in a number of instruments and choirs through primary and secondary school. He was awarded the Louis Armstrong Jazz award for outstanding jazz musicianship in 1995. At 17, Davies began to experiment with writing music on PC using rudimentary audio tools and techniques.
//
He continued his musical training in college in jazz ensembles and befriending a number of the college radio DJs getting his earliest tracks played on air during the weekly electronic music shows. Davies released his first self-published album (cassette, CD-R) “As Fast As You Can” as gingerbread man in 1996. One other gingerbread man release followed in 1998.
//
After college, Davies moved to Madison, WI and joined electro-guitar band STATE4, playing live shows, (including opening for Maroon 5 on their Madison stop of their tour just before everybody knew who they were) releasing 3 albums and an EP before moving to Minneapolis, MN, and then splitting up in 2003.
//
Davies then teamed up with fellow Minneapolis resident, Bill Bates, to form hard trance act, Heliosphere. Heliosphere played dozens of shows and festivals in the Midwest including opening for international act Assemblage 23 and playing in the Madison music festival, Reverence, in 2006. Heliosphere was signed to Sector 9 Studios in 2006 and released their debut album, “Hands On Nation” in 2007. Heliosphere released a total of 4 albums and an EP before dissolving in 2012.

In 2011, Davies began his solo project, DoublePlusTen, writing, recording, and releasing his debut album, “Hourglass”, in only 3 months. DoublePlusTen was focused more on studio work than live performances and only a handful of DoublePlusTen live shows were performed. DoublePlusTen collaborated with a number of artists, most notably working with Caustic (Madison, WI) a number of times for tracks on both DoublePlusTen releases and on Caustic releases. DoublePlusTen also remixed a number of artists. The DoublePlusTen remix was used by Edmonton-based iVardensphere on a compilation album they were asked to contribute to. Davies’ DoublePlusTen remix won the remix contest for the song “A Nice Place To Visit” by Aesthetic Perfection, earning a spot on the international artist’s official release. DoublePlusTen put out a total of 9 releases: 6 albums, 2 EPs, and a single.

Davies teamed up with Vancouver native, teewhy, on a couple of tracks on the “Ain’t Got No Time” half of the "North East South West / Ain't Got No Time" double album, with teewhy providing rap vocals on both the title track and “I Got The Bag”.
//
In 2021, Davies started a new project, Avie. Focusing on driving, hypnotic, and acid techno, Davies continued his outstanding production and writing as well as adding DJing to the mix. He began streaming live DJ sets on Twitch in mid-2021.
//
The debut Avie release "Trajectory" was released on 27 January, 2022. "Psycho Baby" followed on July 25, 2023.
//
The latest Avie release is "Zentrum Kreuzberg", out on October 17, 2023.
